More about the PEAK Leadership Program:
The PEAK Leadership Program is an annual, 10-month (September - June) adult community development initiative dedicated to fostering the heights of community leadership in Clallam and Jefferson Counties on the North Olympic Peninsula.
#1 FAQ: How will I fit this into my already busy schedule?
Participants will miss only one workday (based on M-F) and one weekend day per month. The two-and-a-half day, once-a-month sessions will generally begin at 5:30pm on a Thursday, extend through all-day Friday, and conclude on Saturday at 5:30pm. The only exception to this is in February, when the PEAK Leaders convene in Olympia.
#2 FAQ: Is the PEAK Leadership Program for me?
The PEAK Leadership Program seeks out candidates:
- Experienced enough to have demonstrated leadership
- Who want to increase their personal and professional leadership capacity
- Wants to gain a deeper appreciation of others and the skills and dynamics of collaborative leadership
- Aspires to possess the qualities and attributes of a PEAK Leader: Purposeful, Effective and Authentic, the Keystone of quality leadership.
#3 FAQ: What are the benefits of the PEAK Leadership Program?
The PEAK Program equips leaders who will serve as catalysts, capable of effectively preparing for and responding to today’s changing social, political, demographic and natural environments. The enhanced leadership skills acquired through participation in the PEAK Leadership Program benefits employers, businesses, governments, organizations, and nearly every facet or our local and regional communities. The program accomplishes this through a series of once-a-month learning sessions held at different locations throughout the North Olympic Peninsula and beyond.
By design, the PEAK Leadership Program empowers community leaders, such as yourself, with the ability to see trends and developments, build coalitions, mobilize community assets and skills, develop collaborative teams, and provide focus and action on the priority issues facing our communities in times of rapid change.
#4 FAQ: How do I become a participant in the PEAK Leadership Program?
PEAK Leadership applicants will (1) complete and submit an application, including (2)two letters of recommendation and (3) a letter of commitment to actively and fully participate in and complete the program, including fulfilling a team-based community project and to continue a level of involvement beyond the program completion.
Selection Process is a two-part process, including a written application, followed by a personal interview with the PEAK Leadership Review and Selection Committee.
A maximum of 15 individuals will be selected each year. Successful candidates will have previously demonstrated leadership, share a strong desire to overcome the challenges facing their community and the region and will commit to wholeheartedly participating in the activities and rigors of enhanced leadership development. Individuals representing the public, private, non-profit or community service interests of the area, and who want to improve and increase their leadership capacity, will be considered.
#5 FAQ: What is expected of PEAK Leadership Program participants?
Full participation by each class member is expected. This includes overnight attendance at 10 once-a-month sessions, including eight sessions held at different locations throughout Clallam and Jefferson Counties and two sessions held outside of the North Olympic Peninsula region.
The monthly sessions will generally begin at 5:30pm on the last Thursday of each month, extend through all-day Friday, and conclude on Saturday at 4:30pm. The exceptions to this schedule are November and December, which will convene earlier in the month in order to accommodate the holiday season. In February or March the class will meet for an extended session in Olympia. Otherwise, participants will miss only one workday (based on M-F) and one weekend day per month.
Non-Discrimination – The PEAK Leadership Program does not discriminate against applicants or participants on the basis of race, religion, sex, national origin, sexual orientation, age, or physical ability. However, to ensure a breadth of experiences, participants may represent a range of organizations including the public sector, the private sector, large and small businesses, and non-profit or community service organizations. The program will seek to enroll a balance of men and women representing a true cross section of perspectives and interests and will come from a variety of jurisdictions throughout the two-county region of the North Olympic Peninsula.
#6 FAQ: How much does the PEAK Leadership Program cost?
The 10-month program is valued at over $15,000. However, we are able to offer the program at a reduced rate because of the broad-based, community-wide support the PEAK Leadership Program has received. Tuition for the 2010-2011 PEAK Leadership Program will be announced in the Spring of 2010.
