What is the goal of PEAK Leadership?
- To establish a regional network of leaders who are Purposeful, Effective, Authentic, the Keystones or foundation of quality leadership.
- To invest in leaders on all levels who have a greater understanding of the complexities and interconnectivity of our communities on the North Olympic Peninsula.
Why is PEAK Leadership needed?
Our region is facing rapid population growth, dramatic changes in the economic base, polarization of political discussions, and reductions in levels of federal and state support, which present complex challenges to residents of the North Olympic Peninsula.
We have world-class resources: our water, national forests and parks, high levels of intellectual capital and diverse perspectives—any of which would benefit from leadership. Our businesses and communities need leaders with the foresight and skills to meet current and future challenges.
How does PEAK Leadership accomplish its goal?
- Monthly seminars are held on-site at different geographic locations throughout the North Olympic Peninsula and the region, including a public policy segment in Olympia and an urban-rural interface in Seattle.
- Featured speakers and qualified skills experts provide a more balanced and comprehensive understanding of a broad range of topics and issues.

- Team building exercises foster a common approach and deeper understanding of the leadership skills and dynamics of effective leadership.
- The in-residence nature of PEAK, as defined by days and nights together for specified periods, is designed to break down walls of conventional communication interaction, thereby exposing vulnerabilities and central cores. People learn as much from each other in/out of the “classroom” as they do from the carefully selected parade of speakers and activities.
Who qualifies as a PEAK Leader?
- A U.S. Citizen who resides in Clallam or Jefferson County in Washington State.
- Someone who is old enough to have demonstrated leadership (generally an adult who is 18 years or older), including those who represent the public, private, non-profit and/or community service interests of the area.
- Those who want to improve and increase their personal leadership capacity so they can reinvest themselves as a part of the solution for overcoming the challenges facing their communities.
- Eligible candidates must be given approval by their employer to take off the required time of 14 work days (M-F), plus nine Saturdays, over 10 months. Self-employed individuals must demonstrate their ability to be away from their enterprises for the necessary amount of time.
What are the expectations of a PEAK Leader?
- Be fully committed to attending all 10 monthly seminars, in their entirety;
- Assume leadership responsibility, such as following PEAK protocols for attendance, small group participation, meeting management, fulfilling assignments on time, and other commitments made upon acceptance into the PEAK Program;
- Participate in post-graduate leadership activities, including those that help perpetuate the PEAK Leadership Program;
- Actively participate and fulfill a small group collaborative project focusing on a real-time need, challenge or issue facing the North Olympic Peninsula;
